About Chiropractic
The purpose of chiropractic is to optimise your health. We utilise safe, natural techniques to correct nerve, muscle, joint and ligament problems without drugs or surgery. Our aim is to restore the normal function of your body, thus removing the cause of your symptoms.
What happens when I come for a consultation?
You will be asked questions about your complaint and previous medical history. You will be carefully examined and the findings will be explained to you. Your chiropractor will decide whether or not we can help you and explain the treatment you require. You will have the chance to ask questions. You then decide if you wish to go ahead with chiropractic care. If we think you have a problem which requires another kind of treatment, we may refer you to the appropriate health professional.
Do I have to see my doctor before I come?
No, you do not need a doctor's referral. Simply pick up the telephone and ask to book an appointment.
How much does it cost?
The fee for the initial consultation, which comprises a full case history and thorough physical examination, is £60 and treatment sessions are £32 per visit.
How does chiropractic work?
All the functions of your body are controlled by your nervous system. If the vertebrae in your spine are out of alignment or they are not moving properly, the nerves leaving the spinal cord branching out to every part of your body can become pinched, trapped or irritated. This can then cause symptoms such as neck or back pain, weakness, numbness and tingling. Chiropractors are trained to examine the body and detect areas which are not functioning normally. The chiropractor corrects the joint dysfunction by using safe, gentle manipulation to restore normal alignment and motion. This reduces the pressure on nerves and the body can then go on to heal itself, naturally.
How long will it take for me to get better?
This varies from person to person. It depends on what is wrong with you, the severity of the complaint, how long you have had the problem, your age, general health, occupation and lifestyle. Some people only require one or two visits whereas others need a longer course of treatment.
Who can benefit from chiropractic care?
Anyone can have a problem with their spine, but they may not be aware of it. Babies who have had a difficult birth for example, a long labour, forceps, suction or Caesarian; Toddlers and children may have falls or stumbles; Adults can have work-related sresses and strains, sports injuries or car accidents; The elderly can suffer with arthritis. All of these things can be helped by chiropractic. Chiropractors treat people of all ages.
Do Chiropractors just treat backs?
No. If you injure your shoulder, elbows, wrists, hands, hips, knees, ankles or feet, chiropractic treatment will help to realign the bones and ensure the injured joint heals in the correct position. Car accidents, falls, sports injuries can all create joint dysfunction and pain which responds well to chiropractic care.
